World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its value. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory suggests that the level of an item is determined by a formula that calculates the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real Best item upgrade level.

However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, since the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves boosted by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by adding a name.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat within the same range, unless it's a unique item, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the Best item upgrader comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
