World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the item level. It's a measure of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item's level.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories on how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, since the size of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an Best item upgrade are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item or a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each new level of item upgrading. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available at the store, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
