A great choice for parents who want to take their kids off-road The Fox 5 is a true all-terrain baby stroller. It is equipped with a powerful suspension and big, puncture-proof wheels.

Our tester Claire was amazed by the clean packaging, easy-to-open and thought it was one of the quickest and easiest pieces of baby equipment to put together. She took it out to explore some rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. Some models can be modified to accept a second seat with adapters. You'll also find that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who want to walk but still need some assistance.

Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for an ideal, lightweight solution for city streets. It's easy to move and comes with a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from birth and accommodate two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats must be facing towards the front and there is no room to store a shopping bag under the seat. You will need an extra sidepack.

If you like to take off-road trips then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good choice. It's a side by side model with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy that is available. It's easier to maneuver through narrow doors, on public transport and to climb over and up kerbs. It also has a handbrake on the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack" board for older children.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It offers 30 different seating options as well as a built-in table for older children who like to walk, and a 'cinema' mode which raises the back seat for better visibility.

The phil&teds dots are fantastic single buggys that can be easily adapted to accommodate two (or three!) in a variety of configurations. This is particularly helpful when you have a child in a car seat because the frame can be equipped with a wedgie to allow for optimal lying flat, or car seat adapters to various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children can push it. It is important to have a smooth ride, because babies can feel every bump on the road. This is particularly relevant if you drive on rough terrain like grass or roads that are not paved. Some models also come with locking front wheels to help in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they are prone to punctures. Make sure you have an extra set of tyres in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, designed to withstand bumps and are less prone to punctures, but you might find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back should you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 with her toddler and newborn and found it extremely capable on terrain that is difficult to navigate. "It was able to effortlessly navigate bumpy sidewalks and grass, cobbles, and dirt tracks. It was also easy to maneuver around corners and get up or down kerbs." Folding

A three-wheel double buggy can fold very neatly to store it. There are models that fold flat and stand up (as as if they're in a pushchair position) as well as those that pop open to reveal an umbrella-style fold with the option of a brake operated by hand.
